Breastcancer.org, in partnership with the Lankenau Hospital’s Health Education Center, conducted Basic Breast Health Assemblies in seven Philadelphia and Atlanta-area schools, reaching over 3,000 girls ages 8 to 18 and their mothers. Each assembly was preceeded by an online anonymous survey which the girls completed as homework —gathering their questions, concerns, and stories.

During each assembly, Dr. Marisa Weiss and Ms. Isabel Friedman, the doctor-mom and teen-daughter co-author duo of Taking Care of Your “Girls,” talk openly with girls about the physical and emotional issues surrounding breast development—separating myths from facts and detailing everyday steps to improve breast health and reduce breast cancer risk over a lifetime. They are joined by a choir of students, who read the girls’ stories (collected from the surveys).
