Chapter Ten
Changing Your Breast Size:
From Padded Bras to Surgery

One of my best friends has a very small frame, but had size 36DD breasts. Although she has gotten used to them, the weight of her breasts often hurts her back and she wears both an underwire bra and a sports bra every single day.
Alexandra, 17

When my breasts stopped growing at age seventeen, I was 5’3’, broad-shouldered, with a 40E bra size. Basically, I was ready to have surgery because I couldn’t stand it anymore. It was painful to run (besides the fact that everyone would stare at me). I was starting to have physical problems in the rest of my body – in addition to the emotional effects. Like, I was getting the dents in my shoulders from my bra straps, my back hurt, and I had scoliosis {curvature of the spine} diagnosed. And that’s actually how we got it paid for by our health insurance.
Mara, 19

When my aunt was my age she thought her breasts were way too big so she wore a bra one size too small so they would look smaller.
Chrissy, 19

My breasts are huge and way too big compared to my body. One day I’m going to turn and knock someone out with them.
Meredith, 18

Well, one of my good friends has really big breasts and she hates them enough to want a reduction.  She always tells me she wishes she had the same size boobs as me.
Anya, 15

I wish I had one size bigger boobs so I would be more confident about my body. When I was younger I used to have to get a small bottom and medium top for a bathing suit. Now I have to get a medium bottom and small top. It stinks.
Sara, 14

How do you make breasts bigger naturally (not too big) and right for you in a healthy way (without cosmetic surgery)? How do you know what the right breast size is for you?
Joy, 12

I got a boob job as a sweet sixteen present from my parents. They said I was perfect the way I was, but I still got the present. Where I’m from in Texas, it’s a thing. Two of my friends had it done first. But I was the one who was real small. If I could tell girls thinking about it one thing, yes, you might look hot after, but surgery hurts. Just because it’s not for a serious medical reason doesn’t mean the whole hospital thing isn’t really serious. The nurses and doctors really put you through a big production.
Britt, 19

I had complained to my mother and to my doctor about being completely flat-chested. They knew also that my breasts never grew. But never did they ever tell me I could do something about it. There was nothing in the library – I was so frustrated. Eventually I had surgery – after one week – I never ever, ever, ever, ever regretted it. When my new breasts settled down, it was the first time I had breasts, I was happier than happy.
Lucy, 21

I had breast reduction surgery when I was 19 (I had “J- jugs” and then went down to a C cup). I don’t even want to tell you. Then I went and lost a bunch of weight in college when I got onto the varsity soccer team. Guess what? My boobs went down to a small B cup. Now I’m wishing I could go back in time, and change things a little.
Katherine, 23
